THE FREDERICK FIVE The 5 Best Public Golf Courses in Maryland (Greater Frederick Area, Maryland) INTRODUCTION I often get asked what my favorite courses in Maryland are. The truth is, Maryland has a lot of great golf courses. Maryland has everything from high-end, old, established private country clubs, to executive courses and par 3 tracks, municipal courses operated by the city or county, and everything in between. There is a little bit of everything for everyone but to me, Frederick, Maryland is home to five of the best courses that anyone can play. I call them, the Frederick Five. THE COURSES The Frederick Five are 5 daily fee, public golf courses all within a few minutes of Frederick, Maryland, which is located in Central Maryland, within an hour from Washington DC, Baltimore, and Annapolis. The courses are PB Dye, Worthington Manor, Whiskey Creek, Maryland National, and Musket Ridge. Each of these courses embodies the best Maryland has to offer. Built on some of the most amazing ...

EAST POTOMAC Washington DC February 7, 2023 OVERVIEW FACILITY TYPE: Public WEBSITE:  https://playdcgolf.com/east-potomac-golf-links/ PHONE:  (202) 554-7760   There are few courses more special than East Potomac. I remember visiting Washington DC for the first time during my 8th grade field trip and seeing the East Potomac Golf Course, thinking, how cool would it be to play golf in downtown Washington DC, surrounded by the capital and all the nation’s history?! Fast forward nearly 20 years later and I finally teed it up. East Potomac has 3 golf courses, all downtown adjacent to the mall. The Blue course is an 18-hole championship design playing between 4,638 - 6,599 yards to a par of 72. The White course is a 9-hole executive course which includes a few par 4’s, playing between 1,570 - 2,420 yards to a par of 33, and the Red course is a 9-hole par 3 course playing between 965 - 1,142 yards to a par of 27. Having grown up learning how to play primarily on an executi...

The resort has been around since 1975 when it was opened by the Anheuser-Busch company along with neighboring Busch Gardens. For as long as I’ve known my wife, we’ve been going to Williamsburg for the 4th of July and Thanksgiving to visit her family, and seem to always play at least one round at The Plantation Course. Unlike the longer more challenging River Course which has hosted a number of Professional Tour events, The Plantation Course offers an opportunity for all p...

My first was July 4th, 2020, on the 1 year anniversary of the course being reopened. During that round two years ago, the greens were in poor condition, yet the course layout was so amazing that I went back anyway, and boy am I glad I did! The course was originally designed by legendary golf course architect, Mike Strantz. Opened in 1996, the course received high praise and accolades. This excerpt directly from Stonehouse’s website does a great job summarizing the history of the facility… When the course opened in 1996, Stonehouse was named “Best New Upscale Public Course in the Nation” by Golf Digest and “Top 10 ...
