ABOUT

THE BACKSTORY

As a PGA Professional, you may assume I play a lot of golf. As most Professionals will attest, it's typically less than you might think. Sure, some pros are able to play a lot but for the average PGA professional, it's not uncommon to meet everyday amateurs who play more than they do.

Playing fewer than 20 rounds a year wasn't uncommon for me over the last decade. This year, however, I decided that was going to change. I set the goal to play at least 50 rounds in 2022.

TRACKING

I remember years ago, a member of the club where I was working as a professional, showed me a spreadsheet he made tracking every course he ever played. It was a simple list with a date, course name, and overall score. I loved this idea so to keep track of my rounds, I decided to create a spreadsheet too.

My spreadsheet quickly evolved. Instead of giving the course just an overall score, I decided to break it down. How were the greens that day? What about the fairways and bunkers?

One of my other goals was to play as many new courses as possible. I travel often for workshops, playing lessons, and going on holiday. I wanted to capitalize on this which lead me to track the course scenery, the layout, and the difficulty of the course.

What started as a simple way to track my rounds for the year has quickly evolved into a database of honest and accurate reviews to help YOU the reader understand what to expect before you go.

WHAT MAKES T.S.G. UNIQUE?

This is NOT a "Top 100" style course rating system. Each review is based on the conditions and the experience of the day it was played, not ideal conditions during the peak season like most reviews and ranking systems are based on. A golf course is going to be different and offer different experiences depending on the time of the year.

As an accomplished PGA Coach and Club Fitter with over three decades of playing experience, I know what makes courses great. I understand the expectations players should have from different courses of varying price points. I know what makes great value, and I'm able to offer an unbiased point of view.
