Ready to Go (The Importance of a Proper Warm Up)



How often do you find yourself on the first tee, stiff and nervous, anticipating the first tee shot with a 'hit and hope' mentality?

Do you find yourself taking a few holes to get warmed up?

Are you finishing your rounds sore and tired?

Many of these issues and more can be resolved with a proper warm up

That's why it's so important to warm up properly before you practice or play


OBJECTIVES FOR A PROPER WARM UP?

👉 Get your body and mind ready to perform by the time you stand on the first tee

👉 Maintain energy and focus throughout the round

👉 Help prevent injuries

👉 Make it easier for you to swing freely

👉 Focus your mind into the present


TIME AND EQUIPMENT

A proper warm up doesn't need to be long or use a lot of equipment.

It could be longer and use more equipment for professional golfers who have a lot on the line every week and need their bodies to perform

But for the average golfer, it doesn't need to be long or complicated, it simply needs to meet the objectives above


POWER STRETCHING

Power Stretching is my favorite method for warming up

It requires a player to strategically squeeze their muscles through various ranges of motion

Power Stretching:

1. Improves Range of Motion Ready to Go (The Importance of a Proper Warm Up)

2. Activates the Nervous System and Stimulates Muscles

3. Focuses the Mind into the Present


THE POWER WARM UP

The Power Warm Up is the first thing I teach every player I work with

I believe it's the most important thing a player can do consistently if they're serious about playing well and playing for a long time

The power warm up has a compounding effect

The more you do it, the more effective it becomes

It's comprised of 10 power stretches and takes less than 10 minutes

It should be performed:

1. Every morning within an hour of waking as part of your morning routine

2. Before you practice or play

3. Before a workout or training session

4. To help combat stiffness from being sedentary (working at a desk, traveling, etc)
