For those of you who are avid readers of this blog, you know that I have a soft spot for short courses and Mitchell’s is no exception. This par 29 layout is the perfect place for beginners looking to get on-course experience for the first time as well as more accomplished players who are looking for a quick, easy, and inexpensive round to dial in their game.

Beyond the short course, Mitchell’s also has a 22 bay driving range with 12 covered bays and 10 uncovered bays. They also have 3 miniature golf courses. Between the driving range, mini golf courses, and 9 hole executive course, Mitchell’s is a great facility to practice your game and have fun with friends or the whole family!

Mitchell’s isn’t going to win any awards for pristine conditions or firm fast greens, but they are going to win the hearts of many who are looking for a great spot to get on the course and hone their game.

My favorite part about Mitchell’s, aside from the fact they have 3 mini golf courses, is the fact there are no tee times! This makes for a relaxed environment where everyone feels welcome. This was the perfect place to bring a few of my friends who are new to the game. It gave us a great opportunity to learn basic rules and etiquette while getting to play 9 holes, understand what clubs to hit, and great practice transferring their game from the range to the course.

ACCESSIBILITY

COURSE DIFFICULTY: 1

WALKABILITY: 5

The course is comprised of 7 par 3’s and 2 par 4’s. The longest of the par 3’s is around 160 yards while the par 4’s are under 300 yards. Their signature hole, number 3 is a par 3 over water which offers a great challenge and a rewarding feeling when you clear the water.

Being a shorter course with quick walks between holes, it’s the perfect course to walk. While they do offer golf cars, which may be great for older golfers or those with conditions that will prevent them from being able to walk, I believe it’s a course that should be walked and is the perfect course to walk if you’ve never walked before.

For those of you who are avid walkers, you understand there’s a flow to the game, where to stand, where to leave your bag, etc which is becoming a lost art now that longer more modern courses tend to encourage riding. Mitchell’s provides a great opportunity to practice carrying your bag and hopefully will get you to fall in love with walking the course.

During this most recent round, I played with just 3 clubs, a 5 iron, sand wedge, and putter, all 75+ years old. This made my bag extremely light and allowed me to play freely without being weighed down. If you’re an accomplished golfer, I suggest doing something similar and paring your bag down. If you’re a newer golfer, this still isn’t a bad idea since it’ll help you focus on a few key clubs rather than being overwhelmed by having to figure out what to hit and when to hit it. If you’re new to the game, the fewer decisions and overwhelm you can experience, the better.

AMENITIES

The golf shop is quaint, with basic essentials such as balls, tees, and a small assortment of value clubs, making it the perfect place for beginners to learn the ropes. You’ll likely want to bring your own snacks and drinks and be prepared to use the restroom prior to teeing off.

If you have time, I suggest warming up on the range, playing a round on the short course, then finishing with a loop around one of their mini golf courses. If you don’t have clubs, clubs are available for hire in the golf shop.

SUMMARY

Whether you’re taking the whole family out, or just want to dial in your game, Mitchell’s Golf Complex has some great attractions that will keep you coming back time and time again. Between the executive short course, 3 mini golf courses, and 22 bay driving range, you can work on all areas of your game at an affordable rate.

It’s the perfect place for beginners to get on-course experience and has enough variety and challenge to keep it interesting for more accomplished golfers. And even if you’re not looking to go play, you can still work on your technical skills and have fun putting on their 3 very different mini courses.
