SunRidge Canyon Golf Club, just northeast of Scottsdale, Arizona, offers a truly special golfing experience. Nestled at the foothills of the McDowell Mountains, this out and back Keith Foster design takes you down into the canyon before returning back up and finishing with one of the best stretches in the whole state, nicknamed the Wicked Six.

COURSE CONDITIONS RATINGS

TEES: 4.00

FAIRWAYS: 4.00

GREENS: 4.25

BUNKERS: 3.50

SCENERY: 4.50

LAYOUT: 4.50

OVERALL: 4.13

SunRidge Canyon is a beautiful desert course with a stark contrast between beautiful lush green fairways and greens, and the weather-worn brown desert. This contrast, along with the dramatic views and elevation changes overwhelms the senses with pure golfing joy.

The conditions at SunRidge were fantastic. While still slightly early in the season for Arizonans, the Rye overseed was growing nicely and I can tell they will be in premiere condition by the time the winter season gets started.

ACCESSIBILITY

COURSE DIFFICULTY: 3.75

WALKABILITY: 2.00

Despite being over 7,000 yards from the back tees, the course doesn’t play very long (at least until the wicked six that is). At over 3,000’ of elevation, the ball flew farther than I expected it to, allowing me to use one less club on the front nine and play similar clubs to what I would at sea level during the finishing stretch. (Your results may vary)

Because of the canyonous nature of the course, I’m not sure walking it would be advised. Depending on the time of year, the hot sun and potential for snakes and other desert critters, along with the elevation changes could make it a difficult walk. Despite all that, however, the course has top-of-the-range electric golf cars with GPS to create a high-end experience.

AMENITIES

GOLF SHOP: 4.00

PRACTICE FACILITIES: 3.75

COMFORT STATIONS: 3.75

FOOD & BEV: 4.25

The amenities at SunRidge take the experience to the next level. The clubhouse is large, open, and has beautiful wood everywhere. Before your round, be sure to get some swag from the golf shop. They have some great items but were closed by the time we finished our round so be sure to stock up before you play. After the round, be sure to stay for dinner. We had over 20 players in our group so I was able to see a wide variety of menu items that evening and everything looked great.

SUMMARY

SunRidge is a course I think everyone should add to their next Arizona golf trip. While it may not be the most affordable round of golf in the valley, there are players' passes and seasonal passes available, and the experience and value you get are worth the money. The course offers amazing views, great conditions, fantastic food and drinks, live entertainment, a great practice facility, and more. Come early, stay late, enjoy the golf, and come back again!
