The Game of Life

 It starts the night before...

Going through the bag, making sure it’s fully loaded with balls, tees, ball marker, laser, a snack or two, and good to go

Taking each club out, one at a time, and scrubbing it down, making sure it’s clean and feeling fresh

Looking up the course, scoping it out, visualizing the shots, creating a gameplan

It’s these little obsessions, rituals if you will, that fascinates me about golf

Golf is the game of life

And in many ways, the lessons we must learn and overcome to be successful are the same in golf as they are in life

Play the ball where it lies

Keep an honest score

Call penalties on yourself

Show up on time

Help the group look for balls

Keep up with pace of play

I could go on and on but the reality is that golf parallels life so well because they follow the same rules

They're played in nature and adhere to the laws of physics

You cannot overpower the conditions, you must surrender

If the wind is blowing or rain is coming down, you must respect mother nature and be patient with the opportunities you have to score, striking when the moments are right

It’s a curious game

Played around the world

Even on the moon!

It unites all peoples of all ages and all races

It discriminates against no one

It is harsh and true to all those who play

And that is why I believe we are drawn to it

For only then would we pursue a game that cannot be beaten

Much like life, it is an infinite game

It isn’t about winning so much as it is about showing up each day, dealing with what you’re dealt, and making the best of each situation while pushing to become better than yesterday

It is a game that can be played from 2 to 102

And throughout that time the experience of the game changes

You get better

You get worse

You get better again

You think about quitting

You shoot your personal best

You completely whiffed

Boy oh boy does this game have a way of grounding us

So let me ask you this

Yes you

The one reading this

Why do you play this game we call golf?

How did you get started?

Why did you fall in love?

Never forget the answers to these questions

And tee it up as much as you can

Introduce as many friends to the game as possible

And together, through golf, we can unite and be humbled upon common ground through the love we all share

MOVE BETTER - PLAY BETTER
