Golf Course Review: Thistle Dhu | Pinehurst Resort, Pinehurst, North Carolina

 Thistle Dhu

Pinehurst, NC

April 4, 2023

At Pinehurst Resort, the American cradle of golf, you will find Thistle Dhu, an 18-hole putting course, open to resort guests and the public alike. Situated outside the back of the main resort building at Pinehurst, between the driving range and The Cradle, is a massive putting green, reminiscent of the Donald Ross greens found on the championship courses at the resort.

While the course is not a Ross original, you can feel his spirit present. Players must navigate massive knobs and rolls in the terrain. Don’t be afraid to use the terrain and get creative. Oftentimes, taking the direct line of approach is the incorrect answer.

Positioned in a way that’s accessible to everyone and convenient enough to be played at any time, Thistle Dhu is the perfect way to spend the evening when you arrive in town, warm up before a round, hang out between your morning round or evening round, or simply as a way to have fun with the family without having to play a full round.

Short courses are the future of the game. They’re more accessible to the public and manageable to the facilities that operate them. They’re faster to play, often more affordable, and offer amazing opportunities to learn the game. For better players, they offer opportunities to post low scores and get comfortable stacking multiple birdies on the card.

The future is here, and lead it to Pinehurst, where so much began over a hundred years ago, to help lead the way forward and continue to grow the game for the next generation
